Only  Girl Geeks  Love Math  to the tune of Billy Joel’s “Only the Good Die Young”

Come on Virginia, let me set you straight

Public school girls decide much too late.

Math or English, it’s a choice you must make

Math might as well be the one

They gave you a tome on your twelfth birthday

Brought you to a book store,  took your pencils away

So you never got to calculate the tax that they paid

Oh the math that you might have done!

Only geek dweebs do math

That’s what they said!

But don’t you believe that crap!

That’s what I said!

You might have heard that I run with a math loving crowd

We ain’t too pretty but we sure are proud

We might be laughing a bit too loud

Because we always have so much fun

So come on Virginia let me show you cosines

I’ll draw the squiggles, you draw tangent lines

That gothic  page turner  you’re hiding behind

Never lets in the sun

‘Cause Thomas Hardy and Bleak House aren’t fun

You got a nice dictionary and a Bible on your graduation

But you endangered your soul

With books on rock and roll

But guidance councilors didn’t give you quite enough information

They couldn’t count to three

Though you were counting on their expertise

There’s a high paying job for those who calculate

But the money for writing will leave you desolate

I’d rather laugh with the winners than whine like the saints

Geek girls can have much more fun

Than tragic poets toiling in the sun

You say your mother told you all I could give you was a math education

She never cared for phi

But does she even know  the square of three?

Come out come out come out Virginia

Don’t hesitate

Public school girls decide much too late.

Math or English, it’s a choice you must make

Math might as well be the one

So leave your books and do math in the sun

I’m telling you baby

Cool chicks can do math on the run
